In a historic shift, India Post has announced that its decades-old Registered Post service will be discontinued from September 1, 2025. The government-run postal network will merge Registered Post into Speed Post, aiming to make deliveries faster, more reliable, and digitally trackable.
India Post, one of the largest postal systems in the world, is adapting to the digital age. With declining use of the older system, the department is now modernizing its structure to offer improved features to the public.

India Post ने यह फैसला डिजिटल ट्रैकिंग और तेज़ डिलीवरी की सुविधा को बढ़ाने के लिए लिया है। Registered Post अब एक स्वतंत्र सेवा नहीं रहेगी। इसकी जगह अब Speed Post के माध्यम से ही secure डिलीवरी की सुविधा दी जाएगी।
What’s Changing from September 1?
- Registered Post बंद – अब से कोई भी दस्तावेज़ या पार्सल Registered Post के नाम से नहीं भेजा जा सकेगा।
- Speed Post में एकीकरण – Registered Post की सभी सुविधाएं अब Speed Post के अंदर उपलब्ध होंगी।
- बढ़ी हुई लागत – Speed Post के लिए शुल्क Registered Post से थोड़ा अधिक रहेगा।
- ट्रैकिंग बेहतर होगी – Speed Post में पहले से बेहतर tracking और proof of delivery मिलेगा।
Why India Post Took This Decision?
The use of Registered Post declined due to digital communication and courier competition. Also, the postal department wants to cut down operational delays, and India Post believes Speed Post is more efficient.
According to officials, courts, government offices, and universities using Registered Post regularly have been directed to switch to Speed Post services by July 31, 2025.
